Re-making History

Project Description:

Re-making History is a video artwork that explores the fluidity of historical narratives through the deliberate erasure of artifacts within its stills. By removing these visual elements, the piece invites viewers to imagine alternative, individualized accounts of history, challenging fixed interpretations of the past.

The footage was captured at the National Museum in Gniezno, Poland’s former capital, a site rich with historical significance. Through its minimalist aesthetic, the work prompts reflection on the gaps in collective memory and the potential for personal re-inscriptions of historical events.

Re-making History was exhibited and screened in 2014 at Dzyga Gallery in Lviv, as part of the exhibition Not I / Nie Ja, showcasing its resonance within a broader dialogue about identity and the re-contextualization of history.
