Recycled Tehran
Project Description:
Recycled Tehran (2026) is a single-channel digital video work that explores the transformation of memory and materiality through the process of image degeneration. Using a printer and scanner, a video clip originally captured in Tehran was reworked and recycled through twelve cycles of reproduction. With each cycle, the image progressively deteriorates, becoming grainier and more abstract, eventually taking on an architectonic quality of its own.
This process of visual degeneration draws attention to the materiality of the image itself, revealing its haptic and sensory qualities. Through this act of recycling, the degenerated images create a new space for reflections as viewers witness the video’s rematerialization process.
Recycled Tehran was presented as a single-channel digital video projection, offering viewers a meditative exploration of the interplay between erasure, recollection, and storytelling with the use of digital media.
