Off The Path (II)

Project Description:

Off The Path (II) is a video installation that invites viewers to engage with the materiality of the moving image. The installation consists of a black wooden box embedded with five small magnifying loupes, each designed to magnify and reveal details of a series of miniature videos. Inside the box, while their haptic qualities are amplified playing beneath each loupe, each video brings a unique texture and tactility to the forefront.

As viewers peer through the magnifying lenses, their vision is conditioned by the constrained size and shifting focus of the videos. The pixelated surfaces drift between the loupe and the monitor, occupying a non-fixed plane that requires the audience’s active exploration, blurring the line between observer and observed. This setup offers a sensory engagement with the videos, transforming the act of viewing into a tactile experience where he audience is prompted to physically navigate the visual field.

Off The Path (II) was showcased in the exhibition MAKE.MEDIA.MATTER at the University at Buffalo’s Art Gallery, Center for the Arts, in November 2018.
