Off The Path (I)
Project Description:
Off The Path (I) explores the materiality of the image and its transformation through processes of technological degeneration. Inspired by experimental filmmakers who disrupted the expected meaning of filmic imagery, this piece employs contemporary tools—printers and scanners—traditionally used for reproducing and archiving. By repeatedly recycling still images from the video, the work dismantles the transparency and intended message of the original image.
Through this process, the images degrade and acquire affective textures, transforming into what Gilles Deleuze terms "affection-images"—tactile, sensory, and haptic forms that evoke new aesthetics and meanings. The resulting "poor image," stripped of clarity and resolution, emerges with an alternative value, inviting viewers to engage with its materiality and discover an unexpected beauty in its imperfection and decay.
