Survival Under Atomic attack
Project Description:
Survival Under Atomic Attack is a short video that reflects on the themes of memory, loss and architectural imaginary building on the process of image degeneration. The piece uses footage of places destroyed by war—sites that can only be revisited through memory or mediated representations, as many are lost forever.
In this work, still images from the video are recycled through ten iterations using a printer and scanner. This process of rematerialization introduces a grainy texture and visual deterioration in the images, transforming these imagery into new places for viewers reflection, memory and meaning-making.
By bearing witness to the "dying" image of a lost place, Survival Under Atomic Attack invites viewers to reflect on the layers of history and personal memory that shape our understanding of past, destruction and resilience.
