Off The Path (II)

This video installation consists of a black wooden box with five embedded small magnifying loupes that are used to see small details more closely. Each loupe magnifies a miniature video that plays inside the box. In the miniature videos, the haptic quality of the image is amplified and takes center stage to speak. The audience’s vision is conditioned upon the size of the videos and they are offered a haptic engagement with the material body of the moving image. The pixeled surface of each video’s image drifts in between the magnifying loupe and the monitor and occupies a non-fixed plane as the audience tries to look through the holes to read the images or watch the videos.

This piece was on view in the exhibition MAKE.MEDIA.MATTER at UB Art Gallery, Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo, in Nov 2018.
