Exaptation (I)

Project Description:

Exaptation (I) reimagines film as a material object, challenging the illusion of continuous motion and traditional narrative representation. The piece rematerializes and reworks a clip from Abbas Kiarostami's The Wind Will Carry Us (2000), a film renowned for its evocative landscapes. By recycling the footage, the video transforms the original images in the films into a fictionalized landscape, disrupting the role of film as a transparent vehicle for storytelling.

Through this process, the film compels the audience to contemplate with its physicality and materiality rather than its narrative content. The recycled imagery shifts focus from representation to texture, inviting viewers to explore the tactile and constructed nature of the filmic image.

Exaptation (I) was exhibited at El Museo Gallery in Buffalo, New York, as part of the exhibition Media-As-Things in April 2019.
