In this piece, the film is rematerialized and reworked to challenge the illusion of continuous motion. The clip is chosen from the movie Wind Will Carry Us (2000), directed by Abbas Kiarostami whose films are known for their haunting landscapes. Exaptation suggests that the recycled film is no longer a straightforward vehicle and transparent bearer to convey a story. The recycled video has become a material object that depicts a fictionalized landscape, forcing the audience to grapple with the physical and materiality of the filmic image rather than its content.
This piece was exhibited at El Museo Gallery, Buffalo, New York in April 2019.
