This video installation consisted of a black wooden box with five embedded small magnifying loupes that are used to see small details more closely. Each loupe magnifies a miniature video that plays inside the box.
In the miniature videos, the haptic quality in the materiality of the image is amplified and takes center stage to speak. The audience’s vision is conditioned upon the size of the videos and they are offered a haptic engagement with the material body of the moving image. The pixeled surface of each video’s image drifts in between the magnifying loupe and the monitor when the audience tries to look through the holes to read the image.
This piece has been on view in the exhibition MAKE.MEDIA.MATTER in Nov 2018 at UB Art Gallery, Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo.
